Sahih Muslim 1838e (Book 33, Hadith 60) #11870
Obeying a Maimed Slave Commander

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised people to obey a maimed slave if they are appointed as a commander and lead according to the Book of Allah.

It has been narrated on the authority of Yahya b. Husain who learnt the tradition from his grandmother. Umm Husain. He said': I heard her say: I performed Hajjat-ul-Wada' in the company of the Messenger of Allah . He said a lot of things (on this occasion). Then I heard him say: If a maimed slave is appointed a commander over you the narrator says: I think she said:" a black stave" who leads you according to the Book of Allah, then listen to him and obey him.

QUICK LESSONS:
Listen and obey those in authority who lead according to the Book of Allah.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of obedience and following orders from those in authority, even if it is from someone who may not be considered powerful or important in society. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised people to obey a maimed slave if they are appointed as a commander and lead according to the Book of Allah. This hadith teaches us that we should respect all people regardless of their social status or physical abilities, and that we should always follow orders given by those in authority as long as they do not contradict Islamic teachings. We must also remember that our ultimate source for guidance is the Quran, so any commands given must be consistent with its teachings.
