Sahih Muslim 1790a (Book 32, Hadith 124) #11752
Helping the Prophet in His Time of Need

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was injured in the Battle of Uhud and his daughter Fatima and cousin Ali helped him by washing the wound and pouring water on it. Fatima then used a piece of mat to stop the bleeding.

It has been narrated on the authority of Abd-ul-'Aziz b. Abu Hazim, who learnt from his father (Abu Hazim). The latter heard it from Sahl b. Sa'd who was asked about the injury which the Messenger of Allah got on the day of the Battle of Uhud. He said: The face of the Messenger of Allah was injured, his front teeth were damaged and his helmet was crushed. Fatima, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah , was washing the blood (from his head), and 'Ali b. Abu Talib was pouring water on it from a shield. When Fatima saw that the bleeding had increased on account of (pouring) water (on the wound), she took a piece of mat and burnt it until it was reduced to ashes. She put the ashes on the wound and the bleeding stopped.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about how the Prophet Muhammad was injured during the Battle of Uhud. His daughter Fatima and cousin Ali were there to help him by washing his wound with water from a shield. When they saw that this wasn't helping to stop the bleeding, Fatima took a piece of mat and burnt it until it was reduced to ashes which she then put on his wound which stopped the bleeding. This hadith teaches us about how important it is for us to help those who are in need even if we don't have much resources or knowledge at our disposal as demonstrated by Fatima's quick thinking when she used what she had available - a piece of mat - to help her father in his time of need. It also shows us how important family ties are as both Ali and Fatima were willing to do whatever they could for their beloved prophet despite their limited resources at hand.
