The Awe of the Prophet

SUMMARY: The Prophet's awe was so great that it caused the narrator to drop his whip.

This hadith has been narrated on the authorityo A'mash but with this variation of words: " There fell from my hand the whip on account of his (the Prophet's) awe".
وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ، ح وَحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، - وَهُوَ الْمَعْمَرِيُّ - عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، ح وَحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ، الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، كُلُّهُمْ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، بِإِسْنَادِ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ ‏.‏ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِهِ ‏.‏ غَيْرَ أَنَّ فِي حَدِيثِ جَرِيرٍ فَسَقَطَ مِنْ يَدِي السَّوْطُ مِنْ هَيْبَتِهِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the awe and reverence that should be shown to the Prophet. It is said that when one is in the presence of someone they respect, they can become overwhelmed with emotion and this is what happened to A'mash when he was in the presence of the Prophet. He became so overwhelmed with emotion that he dropped his whip out of respect for him. This hadith teaches us to show respect and honor for those we look up to, especially for our beloved prophet Muhammad ﷺ. We should always strive to show him reverence and honor as a sign of our love for him.
