Sahih Muslim 1639a (Book 26, Hadith 3) #11349
The Ineffectiveness of Vows

SUMMARY: Taking vows does not bring any benefit and is only a way to extract something from a miserly person.

'Abdullah b. Umar reported: Allah's Messenger (may peace he upon him) singled out one day forbidding us to take vows and said: It would not avert anything; it is by which something is extracted from the miserly person.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous with your money and help those in need without expecting anything in return

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that taking vows does not bring any benefit and is only a way to extract something from a miserly person. It teaches us that we should not take vows as it will not help us in any way and it is wrong to try to get something out of someone who is already struggling financially. We should instead be generous with our money and help those in need without expecting anything in return. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us the importance of being honest with ourselves about our financial situation so that we can make wise decisions when it comes to spending our money.
