The Virtue of Charity

SUMMARY: Giving charity is a noble act and should not be taken back.

Ibn 'Umar reported that 'Umar b. al-Khattib (Allah be pleased with him) donated a horse in the path of Allah and (later on) he found it being sold, and he decided to buy that. He asked the Messenger of Allah about it. whereupon he (the Holy prophet) said: Don't buy that and do not get back what you gave in charity.

QUICK LESSONS:
Give generously without expecting anything in return .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the virtue of charity and generosity. It tells us that when we give something in charity, it should be done with an open heart and without any expectations of getting it back. Umar b. al-Khattib was a generous man who donated a horse in the path of Allah but later found it being sold. He asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ about it and was told not to buy it or take back what he gave in charity as this would defeat the purpose of giving in the first place. This hadith teaches us that giving is an act which should be done with sincerity and without any expectations or conditions attached to it. We must remember that whatever we give away will come back to us manifold from Allah Almighty if we do so with pure intentions for His sake alone.
