Paying Off Debts

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that the best of servants of Allah are those who pay off their debts.

Abu Rafi', the freed slave of Allah's Messenger , said: Allah's Messenger took as a loan , but with this variation that he (the Holy Prophet) said: Good amongst the servanIs of Allah is he who is best in paying off the debt.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ، سَمِعْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَسْلَمَ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَطَاءُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ، مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ قَالَ اسْتَسْلَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ بَكْرًا ‏.‏ بِمِثْلِهِ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ ‏ "‏ فَإِنَّ خَيْرَ عِبَادِ اللَّهِ أَحْسَنُهُمْ قَضَاءً

This hadith teaches us that it is important to be responsible and pay off our debts. The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, taught us that being a good servant of Allah means paying off our debts in a timely manner. We should always strive to fulfill our obligations and not take advantage of others by not paying them back what we owe them.
