Sahih Muslim 1557 (Book 22, Hadith 22) #11107
The Power of Leniency

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of showing leniency and mercy to others, even when one has the right to demand something.

A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported: Allah's Messenger heard the voices of altercation of two disputants at the door; both the voices were quite loud. The one demanded some remission and desired that the other one should show leniency to him, whereupon the (other one) was saying: By Allah will not do that. Then there came Allah's Messenger to them and said: Where is he who swears by Allah that he would not do good? He said: messenger of Allah, it is I. He may do as he desires.

QUICK LESSONS:
Showing kindness and mercy towards others even when they owe you something or have wronged you in some way .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the power of leniency and mercy. It tells us that even when we have a right to demand something from someone, it is better for us to show them mercy and lenience instead. Allah's Messenger heard two people arguing at his door, with one demanding some remission from the other. When he asked who was refusing to do good, it was revealed that it was the person asking for remission who was refusing to show mercy. Allah's Messenger then told him he could do as he desired, emphasizing that showing lenience is more important than demanding what we are owed.

This hadith teaches us an important lesson in humility and kindness; even if we have a right over someone else or are owed something by them, it is better for us to show them mercy than demand our due rights from them. It also shows us how powerful forgiveness can be; by forgiving someone else’s wrongdoings towards you or not demanding your due rights from them can help create peace between two parties instead of furthering animosity between them.
