Sahih al-Bukhari 1141 (Book 19, Hadith 22) #1101
Balanced Lifestyle of the Prophet Muhammad

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had a balanced lifestyle of fasting, praying and sleeping.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: Sometimes Allah's Messenger would not fast (for so many days) that we thought that he would not fast that month and he sometimes used to fast (for so many days) that we thought he would not leave fasting throughout that month and (as regards his prayer and sleep at night), if you wanted to see him praying at night, you could see him praying and if you wanted to see him sleeping, you could see him sleeping.

QUICK LESSONS:
Maintain a balance between worshiping Allah SWT and taking care of physical needs such as eating and sleeping.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Anas bin Malik speaks about the balanced lifestyle of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He would sometimes fast for so many days that people thought he wouldn't stop fasting throughout that month. Similarly, he would pray at night and sleep as well. This teaches us to maintain a balance in our lives between worshiping Allah and taking care of our physical needs such as eating and sleeping. We should not neglect either one or become too extreme in either direction. We should strive to find a balance between them both so we can live healthy lives while still fulfilling our religious obligations.
