Sahih al-Bukhari 1097 (Book 18, Hadith 17) #1057
Praying Nawafil Differently from Compulsory Prayers

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to pray Nawafil by nodding his head in whatever direction he faced, but he did not do the same for compulsory prayers.

Narrated 'Amir bin Rabi'a: I saw the Prophet on his Mount praying Nawafil by nodding his head, whatever direction he faced, but Allah's Messenger never did the same in offering the compulsory prayers.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow instructions given by Allah and His Messenger ﷺ , Make voluntary acts of worship more meaningful than obligatory ones .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the way Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to pray. It is narrated by 'Amir bin Rabi'a that he saw the Prophet ﷺ praying voluntary prayers or nawafil by nodding his head in whatever direction he faced. However, when it came to obligatory prayers or fardh, the Prophet ﷺ did not do this. This teaches us that we should be mindful of how we perform our religious duties and take care to follow all instructions given by Allah and His Messenger ﷺ. We should also strive to make our voluntary acts of worship more meaningful and special than our obligatory ones as they are a form of expressing love for Allah SWT.
