Following Rulers

SUMMARY: This hadith is about following the rulers and doing as they do.

Abd al-'Aziz b. Rufai' (Allah be pleased with him) said: I asked Anas b. Malik to tell me about something he knew about Allah's Messenger , viz. where he observed the noon prayer on Yaum al-Tarwiya. He said: At Mina. I said: Where did he observe the afternoon prayer on the Yaum an-Nafr? and he said: It was at al-Abtah. He then said: Do as your rulers do.

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey your rulers and do as they do

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about following the rulers and doing as they do, which was narrated by Abd al-'Aziz b. Rufai' and Anas b. Malik. It teaches us to obey our leaders, even if we don't agree with them or their decisions, because it is a part of faith to follow them in good times and bad times alike. We should also remember that Allah has given authority to those who are in charge of us, so we must respect their authority even if we don't agree with it completely. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that when he observed the noon prayer on Yaum al-Tarwiya he did so at Mina, and when he observed the afternoon prayer on Yaum an-Nafr he did so at al-Abtah - this shows us that even though his own opinion may have differed from what was decided by those in power, he still followed their orders out of respect for their authority over him.
