Prostration While Reciting

SUMMARY: Prostration is not compulsory while reciting, but the Prophet (ﷺ) prostrated while reciting.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The prostration of Sa'd is not a compulsory one but I saw the Prophet prostrating while reciting it.
حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، وَأَبُو النُّعْمَانِ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ ‏{‏ص‏}‏ لَيْسَ مِنْ عَزَائِمِ السُّجُودِ، وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ يَسْجُدُ فِيهَا‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the act of prostration during recitation. It is narrated by Ibn 'Abbas that the prostration of Sa'd is not a compulsory one, however, he saw the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ prostrating while reciting it. This shows us that although prostration during recitation is optional, it can be done as an act of worship and reverence to Allah SWT. The Prophet ﷺ was known for his exemplary character and devotion to Allah SWT and this hadith serves as an example for us to follow in our own lives. We should strive to emulate his actions in order to gain closeness with Allah SWT and His pleasure.
