Sahih Muslim 1280d (Book 15, Hadith 306) #10241
Stopping for Ablution During Hajj

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was on his way back from Arafat and stopped to perform ablution before continuing on to Muzdalifa, where he observed sunset and 'Isha' prayers together.

Usama b. Zaid (Allah be pleased with him) narrated: AHah's Messenger was on his way back from 'Arafat and as he reached the creek (of a hillock) he got down and urinated (Usama did not say that he poured water), but said: He (the Holy Prophet) called for water and performed ablution, but it was not a thorough one. I said: Messenger of Allah, the prayer! Thereupon he said: Prayer awaits you ahead (at Muzdalifa). He then proceeded, until he reached Muzdalifa and observed sunset and 'Isha' prayers (together) there.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith of Usama b. Zaid narrates an incident that occurred during the journey of the Prophet Muhammad's pilgrimage to Mecca. On his way back from 'Arafat he stopped at a creek and called for water in order to perform ablution before continuing on to Muzdalifa where he observed sunset and 'Isha' prayers together. This hadith teaches us the importance of performing ablutions before prayer as well as the importance of observing prayer at its appointed times even when travelling or in difficult circumstances. It also serves as an example for us of how we should conduct ourselves during our own pilgrimages if we are fortunate enough to make one in our lifetime.
