Sahih Muslim 1255b (Book 15, Hadith 244) #10179
Reward of Umrah in Ramadan

SUMMARY: The hadith is about a woman of the Ansar who was unable to perform Hajj due to lack of resources. The Prophet (PBUH) then told her that if she performs Umrah in Ramadan, it will be equal to Hajj in reward.

Ataa reported: I heard Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) narrating to us that Allah's Messenger said to a woman of the Ansar (Ibn Abbas had mentioned her name but I have forgotten it): 'What has prevented you that you do not perform Hajj along with us? She said: We have only two camels for carrying water. One of the camels has been taken by my husband and my son for performing Hajj and one has been left for us for carrying water, whereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: So when the month of Ramadan come, perform Umra, for'Umra in this (month) is equal to Hajj (in reward).

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform acts with intentionality; Make effort-based rewards; Show gratitude towards God's blessings; Perform umrah during ramadan when possible; Make small efforts such as praying regularly or giving charity which will bring you closer to Allah and earn His blessings.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance and reward of performing Umrah during the month of Ramadan. It is narrated by Ataa who heard it from Ibn Abbas that Allah's Messenger said to a woman from Ansar that if she cannot perform Hajj due to lack of resources then she should perform Umrah during the month of Ramadan as it will be equal in reward as performing Hajj. This hadith teaches us that even though we may not have enough resources or time for certain acts such as performing pilgrimage or other religious obligations, we can still do something else which has an equivalent reward and benefit us spiritually. We should also remember that Allah rewards us for our intentions and efforts more than anything else so even if we are unable to do something big like going on pilgrimage or fasting for a whole month, we can still make small efforts such as praying regularly or giving charity which will bring us closer to Allah and earn His blessings.
