Sahih Muslim 1206b,c (Book 15, Hadith 102) #10037
Death During Ihram

SUMMARY: A person died while in the state of Ihram and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) instructed to bathe him with water mixed with leaves of lote tree, shroud him in two pieces of cloth without perfume or covering his head. He will be raised on the Day of Resurrection pronouncing Talbiya.

Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) reported: While a person was standing in 'Arafat with the Messenger of Allah he fell down from his camel and broke his neck. This was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah , whereupon he said: Bathe him with water mixed with the leaves of the lote tree and shroud him in two (pieces of) cloth and neither perfume him nor cover his head; (Ayyub said) for Allah would raise him on the Day of Resurrection in the state of pronouncing Talbiya. ('Amr. however, said): Verily Allah would raise him on the Day of Resurrection pronouncing Talbiya. Sa'id b. Jubair narrated this hadith on the authority of Ibn 'Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) that a person was standing with the Messenger of Allah as he was in the state of Ihram. The rest of the hadith is the same.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a person who died while he was in the state of Ihram during Hajj. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ instructed that he should be bathed with water mixed with leaves from a lote tree and then shrouded in two pieces of cloth without any perfume or covering his head. On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will raise him up pronouncing Talbiya which is an Islamic prayer said during Hajj rituals. This hadith teaches us that we should follow all instructions given by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ even if it seems strange to us as Allah knows best what is good for us and our afterlife. It also teaches us to respect those who have passed away by following proper burial rituals as prescribed by Islam such as bathing them before shrouding them properly without any perfumes or covering their heads so they can be raised on the Day of Resurrection according to Islamic teachings.
