Sahih Muslim 1190a (Book 15, Hadith 42) #9977
The Fragrance of Ihram

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had a pleasant scent of perfume on his head while in the state of Ihram.

'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported: I still seem to see the glistening of the perfume where the hair parted on Allah's Messenger's head as he was in the state of Ihram, and Khalaf (one of the narrators) did not say: As he was in the state of Ihram, but said: That was the perfume of Ihram.

QUICK LESSONS:
Use perfumes and fragrances while performing acts such as Hajj or Umrah .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) experience in the state of Ihram. In this hadith, 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that she could still see the glistening of perfume on Allah's Messenger's head as he was in the state of Ihram. This indicates that even when performing an act as sacred and important as Hajj, it is permissible to use perfumes and fragrances to enhance one’s spiritual experience. It also shows us that even during a time when people are expected to abstain from worldly pleasures, it is still possible to enjoy some luxuries without compromising one’s faith or piety. Furthermore, this hadith teaches us that we should strive for excellence in all aspects of our lives - including our physical appearance - while still adhering to Islamic principles and values.
