The Significance of Talbiya

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) pronounced Talbiya when he was about to embark on a journey.

Ibn 'Umar (Allah be pleased with them) reported that the Messenger of Allah pronounced Talbiya in Dhu'l-Hulaifa as he put his feet in the stirrup and his camel stood up and proceeded.
وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، - رضى الله عنهما - قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ إِذَا وَضَعَ رِجْلَهُ فِي الْغَرْزِ وَانْبَعَثَتْ بِهِ رَاحِلَتُهُ قَائِمَةً أَهَلَّ مِنْ ذِي الْحُلَيْفَةِ

This hadith is about the significance of pronouncing the word ‘Talbiya’ before embarking on a journey. It was narrated by Ibn 'Umar that the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) pronounced this word as he put his feet in the stirrup and his camel stood up and proceeded. This shows us that it is important to remember Allah before we start any task or journey, no matter how small or big it may be. We should always remember Allah and ask for His help in all our endeavors so that we can achieve success in this world and hereafter.
