Sahih Muslim 1158 (Book 13, Hadith 234) #9873
Consistent Fasting Habits of the Prophet Muhammad

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was consistent in his fasting habits, and would not break or start a fast without it being known.

Anas (Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah used to observe fast till it was said that he had observed fast, he had observed fast (perhaps never to break it), and he did not fast till it was said that he had given up fast, he had given up fast (perhaps never to observe it).

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for consistency in life and develop good habits

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Anas ibn Malik speaks to the importance of consistency in our lives. It is reported that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was consistent in his fasting habits, and would not break or start a fast without it being known. This teaches us that we should strive for consistency in our own lives, as this will help us to stay on track with our goals and commitments. We should also remember that consistency is key when it comes to developing good habits; if we are able to stick with something for long enough, then eventually it will become second nature to us. Finally, this hadith reminds us of the importance of having people around who can hold us accountable for our actions; if no one knows what we are doing then there is no one who can remind us when we slip up or encourage us when we do well.
