Sahih al-Bukhari 1019 (Book 15, Hadith 14) #983
Praying for Rain

SUMMARY: The hadith is about a man asking the Prophet (pbuh) to pray for rain, and the Prophet (pbuh) praying for rain and it raining from Friday to Friday.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: A man came to Allah's Messenger and said, "O Allah's Messenger ! Livestock are destroyed and the roads are cut off; so please invoke Allah". So Allah's Messenger prayed for rain and it rained from that Friday till the next Friday. Then a man came to the Prophet (pbuh) and said, "O Allah's Messenger ! The houses have collapsed, roads are cut off and the livestock are destroyed". So Allah's Messenger said, "O Allah ! (Let it rain) on the tops of the mountains, on the plateaus, in the valleys and over the places where trees grow". So the clouds cleared away from Medina as clothes are taken off.

QUICK LESSONS:
Ask sincerely with faith in God when praying .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a man who came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ asking him to pray for rain. The Prophet ﷺ prayed for rain and it rained from that Friday until the next one. Then another man came to him saying that due to the heavy rains, houses have collapsed, roads are cut off, and livestock are destroyed. So then Allah's Messenger ﷺ prayed again but this time he asked Allah that it should only rain on top of mountains, plateaus, valleys and places where trees grow so as not cause any more destruction. After this prayer was made by Allah's Messenger ﷺ , clouds cleared away from Medina like clothes being taken off. This hadith teaches us how powerful prayer can be when we ask Allah sincerely with faith in Him; He will answer our prayers if they are good ones! It also teaches us how merciful Allah is; He answered the second prayer of His messenger so as not cause any more destruction or harm on people or their belongings.
