Sahih Muslim 1118a (Book 13, Hadith 126) #9765
Acceptance of Different Fasting Practices During Ramadan

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions traveled during the month of Ramadan, but neither those who fasted nor those who did not fast criticized each other.

Humaid reported that Anas (Allah be pleased with him) was asked about fasting during Ramadan while travelling. He said: We travelled with the Messenger of Allah during the month of Ramadan, but neither the observer of the fast found fault with the breaker of the fast, nor the breaker of the fast found fault with the observer of the fast.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect others' decisions regarding religious practices; strive for understanding & peace among people with different beliefs; accept different opinions without judgement or criticism; follow Islamic teachings

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of acceptance and understanding when it comes to religious practices. During the time of Prophet Muhammad, he and his companions traveled during the month of Ramadan, a holy month in which Muslims are encouraged to fast from sunrise to sunset. However, neither those who chose to observe the fast nor those who chose not to criticize each other for their decisions. This teaches us that we should accept different practices within our faith without judgement or criticism as long as they do not go against Islamic teachings. We should also strive for understanding and respect when it comes to different beliefs or opinions within our faith community so that we can come together in peace and harmony despite our differences.
