Sahih Muslim 1093b (Book 13, Hadith 48) #9687
The Time of Dawn According to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was explaining the time of dawn and how it is not as people think it is.

This hadith has been narrated by Sulaiman al-Taimi with the same chain of transmitters (but with a slight variation of words) that he (the Holy Prophet) said: The dawn is not like it as it is said; he then gathered his fingers and lowered them. But he said, it is like this (and he placed the index finger upon the other one and spread his hand).

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was explaining the time of dawn and how it is not as people think it is. He gathered his fingers together and lowered them to demonstrate that dawn does not come suddenly but rather gradually. This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions during this time because Allah has blessed us with a special moment in which we can seek His forgiveness and mercy. We should take advantage of this moment by praying or reflecting on our lives so that we can become closer to Allah. Additionally, this hadith also teaches us about patience and perseverance because although dawn may seem like a long wait, eventually it will come if we are patient enough.
