Sahih Muslim 1092c (Book 13, Hadith 44) #9683
Eating and Drinking Until Second Call for Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) instructed Bilal and the son of Umm Maktum to call for prayer at different times, so that people can eat and drink until the second call.

Ibn 'Umar (Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that the Messenger of Allah had two Mu'adhdhins, Bilal and son of Umm Maktum, the blind. The Messenger of Allah said: Bilal announces Adhan at (the fag end of the) night (i. e. Sahri), so eat and drink till the son of Umm Maktum announces Adhan. And he (the narrator) said: And the (difference of time) between their (Adhans) was not more than this that one climbed down (from the minaret) and the other climbed up (to announce Adhan).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how the Prophet Muhammad instructed two of his followers - Bilal and son of Umm Maktum - to call for prayer at different times. He told them that Bilal should make the first call at night so that people can eat and drink until the second call is made by son of Umm Maktum. This hadith teaches us to be mindful of our time management when it comes to eating or drinking before prayers. It also teaches us not to waste time in between activities but rather use it wisely. Furthermore, this hadith also shows us how much importance was given by Prophet Muhammad towards those who were disabled or blind as he appointed a blind person as one of his Mu'adhdhins.
