Minimum Amount of Sadaqa Payable

SUMMARY: This hadith explains the minimum amount of sadaqa (zakat) that is payable on different items.

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported Allah's Messenger (way peace be upon him) as saying: No sadaqa (zakat) is payable on less than five wasqs of (dates or grains), on less than five camel-heads and on less than five Uqiyahs (of silver).
وَحَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ النَّاقِدُ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَمْرَو بْنَ يَحْيَى بْنِ عُمَارَةَ فَأَخْبَرَنِي عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ قَالَ ‏ "‏ لَيْسَ فِيمَا دُونَ خَمْسَةِ أَوْسُقٍ صَدَقَةٌ وَلاَ فِيمَا دُونَ خَمْسِ ذَوْدٍ صَدَقَةٌ وَلاَ فِيمَا دُونَ خَمْسِ أَوَاقٍ صَدَقَةٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the minimum amount of charity or zakat that is payable on different items. According to this hadith, no charity or zakat is payable on less than five wasqs of dates or grains, five camel-heads and five uqiyahs of silver. A wasq is a measure for dry goods such as dates and grains while an uqiyah is a measure for silver coins. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to be generous with our wealth and give charity even if it's only a small amount. He also taught us to be mindful about how much we are giving away in charity so that we don't give too little or too much.
