Sahih Muslim 1064e (Book 12, Hadith 192) #9591
The Significance of Prayers

SUMMARY: This hadith is about a group of people who will arise in the nation and their prayers will be more significant than others. They will recite the Quran but it won't go beyond their throats, and they will swerve through religion like an arrow passes through its prey.

Abu Salama and 'Ata' b. Yasar came to Abu Sa'id al-Khudri and asked him about Haruriya, saying: Did you hear the Messenger of Allah making a mention of them? He (Abu Sai'd al-Khudri) said: I don't know who the Haruriya are, but I heard the Messenger of Allah as saying: There would arise in this nation (and he did not say" out of them" ) a people and you would hold insignificant your prayers as compared with their prayers. And they would recite the Qur'an which would not go beyond their throats and would swerve through the religion (as blank) just as a (swift) arrow passes through the prey. The archer looks at his arrow, at its iron head and glances at its end (which he held) in the tip of his fingers to see whether it had any stain of blood.

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray sincerely according to Islamic teachings

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of prayer in Islam. It tells us that there may come a time when some people's prayers are more significant than others, and they recite the Quran without understanding it or taking any benefit from it. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ compared this to an arrow passing through its prey; just as an archer looks at his arrow to see if there is any stain of blood on it, so too should we look at our prayers to make sure that we are doing them correctly and with sincerity. This hadith also warns us against swerving away from true Islamic teachings, as this can lead us astray from Allah's path. We must always strive to stay on the right path by following Allah's commands and teachings in order to gain His pleasure and mercy.
