Sahih Muslim 1004a (Book 12, Hadith 63) #9462
Charity on Behalf of Deceased Loved Ones

SUMMARY: A person asked the Prophet if their mother would receive a reward for charity if they gave it on her behalf, and the Prophet said yes.

'A'isha said that a person came to the Messenger of Allah and said: My mother died suddenly without having made any will. I think she would have definitely given Sadaqa if she had been able to speak. Would she have a reward if I gave Sadaqa on her behalf? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Yes.

QUICK LESSONS:
Give sadaqa on behalf of deceased loved ones

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about giving charity on behalf of deceased loved ones. The Prophet was asked whether a person's mother would receive a reward for charity if they gave it on her behalf, and he said yes. This teaches us that even after someone has passed away, we can still do good deeds in their name to benefit them in the afterlife. It also shows us how important charity is in Islam; even when someone cannot speak or act for themselves anymore, we can still give charity to help them out. We should remember this lesson and strive to give as much charity as possible while we are alive so that our loved ones may benefit from it after we have gone too.
