Spending on Family as Charity

SUMMARY: Spending on one's family is an act of charity and will be rewarded by Allah.

Abu Mas'ud reported Allah's Messenger (way peace be upon him) as saying: When a Muslim spends on his family seeking reward for it from Allah, it counts for him as sadaqa.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that spending on one's family is an act of charity and will be rewarded by Allah. It encourages us to take care of our families and provide for them in order to gain the reward from Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that when a Muslim spends on his family seeking reward for it from Allah, it counts for him as sadaqa. This means that even if we are providing basic necessities such as food or clothing for our families, we can still receive the reward from Allah if we do so with the intention of pleasing Him. This hadith also reminds us to be generous towards our families and not just think about ourselves when making decisions about how to spend money or resources.
