Sahih Muslim 989a (Book 12, Hadith 35) #9434
Pleasing Collectors of Charity

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of pleasing collectors of charity and how it was exemplified by Jarir.

Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported: There came people from among the Bedouins to the Messenger of Allah and said: Collectors of Sadaqa come to us and treat us unjustly. Upon this the Messenger of Allah said: Please your collectors. Jarir said: Ever since I heard it from the Messenger of Allah no collector had departed but was pleased with me.

QUICK LESSONS:
Please your collectors

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of treating those who collect charity with respect and kindness. It is narrated by Jabir b. 'Abdullah that some Bedouins came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and complained that collectors of charity were treating them unjustly. In response, the Prophet ﷺ advised them to please their collectors, which Jarir took as a lesson and applied in his own life, ensuring that no collector ever left him without being pleased with him. This hadith teaches us that we should always be kind and generous when dealing with those who are collecting donations for charitable causes, even if they may not be treating us fairly or justly in return. We should remember that our actions will be judged on how we treat others, regardless if they are in a position of power or not; thus it is important to always show respect and kindness towards all people regardless of their station in life or what they may have done wrong against us.
