Prayer for the Departed

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) gave the people news of the death of Negus and led them in prayer.

Abu Huraira reported that the Messenger of Allah gave the people news of the death of Negus on the day he died, and he took them out to the place of prayer and observed four takbirs.

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray for those who have passed away; Show respect towards those who have passed away; Be thankful for their life; Remember them with reverence through our prayers.

EXPLANATIONS:
When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ heard about the death of Negus, he took his followers to a place of prayer and led them in four takbirs. A takbir is an exaltation or glorification of Allah, usually done by saying “Allahu Akbar” which means “God is Greater”. This shows us that when someone passes away, we should remember them with supplication and prayer to Allah. We should also be thankful for their life and all that they have done for us while they were alive. This hadith teaches us to be grateful for those who have passed away and to remember them with respect and reverence through our prayers.
