Sahih Muslim 941a (Book 11, Hadith 57) #9327
Shrouding of the Prophet Muhammad

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad was shrouded in three white cotton garments from Sahul, and Abdullah Abu Bakr wanted to keep it for himself but decided against it as he believed that if Allah had desired it for the Prophet, he would have been shrouded with it.

'A'isha reported that the Messenger of Allah was shrouded in three cotton garments of white Yamani stuff from Sahul, among which was neither a shirt nor a turban; and so far as Hullah is concerned there was some doubt about it in the minds of people, that it was brought for him in order to shroud him with it, but it was abandoned, and he was shrouded in three cotton garments of white Yamani stuff from Sahul. Then 'Abdullah b. Abu Bakr got it and said: I would keep it in order to shroud myself in it. He then said: If Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, would have desired it for His Apostle, he would have been shrouded with it. So he sold it and gave its price in charity.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect and honor our beloved prophet even after his death; Give back to those in need; Be humble when presented with something valuable or desirable; Follow Islamic teachings on charity

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how the Prophet Muhammad was shrouded after his death. It is narrated by 'A'isha who said that three white cotton garments from a region called Sahul were used to shroud him. Abdullah Abu Bakr wanted to keep one of these garments for himself but decided against it as he believed that if Allah had desired it for the Prophet, he would have been shrouded with it instead. He then sold this garment and gave its price in charity. This hadith teaches us about respecting and honoring our beloved prophet even after his death by not taking any items associated with him without permission or using them for personal gain. It also teaches us about charity and giving back to those in need which is an important part of Islamic teachings. Furthermore, this hadith shows us how we should be humble even when we are presented with something valuable or desirable as Abdullah Abu Bakr chose not to take something precious out of respect for the prophet's wishes rather than keeping them out of greed or selfishness.
