Sahih al-Bukhari 965 (Book 13, Hadith 14) #931
Praying Before Slaughtering Sacrifice

SUMMARY: The Prophet (pbuh) taught that the first thing to do on a day is to pray and then slaughter a sacrifice. He also said that if someone slaughtered the sacrifice before prayer, it would not be considered as Nusuk.

Narrated Al-Bara' bin 'Azib: The Prophet (pbuh) said, "The first thing that we should do on this day of ours is to pray and then return to slaughter the sacrifice. So anyone who does so, he acted according to our Sunna (tradition), and whoever slaughtered the sacrifice before the prayer, it was just meat which he presented to his family and would not be considered as Nusuk". A person from the Ansar named Abu Burda bin Niyyar said, "O Allah's Messenger ! I slaughtered the Nusuk (before the prayer) but I have a young she-goat which is better than an older sheep". The Prophet I said, "Sacrifice it in lieu of the first, but it will be not sufficient (as a sacrifice) for anybody else after you".

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray first before slaughtering a sacrifice .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about the importance of prayer in our lives. The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) taught us that we should always begin our day with prayer and then slaughter a sacrifice afterwards. He also said that if someone slaughtered the sacrifice before praying, it would not be considered as Nusuk. This hadith emphasizes how important it is for us to prioritize our prayers over other activities in life, even something as important as sacrificing an animal for Allah's sake. It also shows us how generous and understanding Allah is towards His servants; even though Abu Burda bin Niyyar sacrificed his animal before praying, he was still allowed to offer another one in its place so he could fulfill his obligation of sacrificing an animal for Allah's sake.
