Sahih Muslim 927f (Book 11, Hadith 25) #9295
Lamenting the Wounded

SUMMARY: The hadith is about Umar being wounded and Suhaib coming to him and weeping. Umar then reminds Suhaib of a saying of the Prophet (PBUH) that whoever is lamented upon will be punished.

Abu Musa reported that when 'Umar was wounded, there came Suhaib from his house and went to 'Umar and stood by his side, and began to wail. Upon this 'Umar said: What are you weeping for? Are you weeping for me? He said: By Allah, it is for you that I weep, O Commander of the believers. He said: By Allah, you already know that the Messenger of Allah had said: He who is lamented upon is punished. I made a mention of it to Musa b. Talha, and he said that 'A'isha told that it concerned the Jews (only).

QUICK LESSONS:
Show sympathy in other ways such as praying for their speedy recovery or offering words of comfort instead of lamenting over them.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about how one should react when someone close to them is hurt or wounded. It teaches us that we should not lament over them, as this could lead to punishment from God. Instead, we should show our sympathy in other ways such as praying for their speedy recovery or offering words of comfort. This hadith also mentions a saying from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ which was only applicable to Jews at that time, but it serves as an important reminder for us today - that we must be careful with our actions and words so as not to incur any punishment from God.
