This hadith is about how to respond to calamities. Umm Salama reported that the Prophet Muhammad said that if someone who is suffering from a calamity says "We belong to Allah and to Him shall we return; O Allah, reward me for my affliction and give me something better than it in exchange for it," then Allah will reward them with something better than what they lost. Umm Salama herself experienced this when her husband Abu Salama died and she was taken as the wife of Prophet Muhammad himself.
