Sahih Muslim 894d (Book 9, Hadith 4) #9239
Praying for Rain in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) prayed for rain and faced the Qibla while doing so.

'Abbad b. Tamim Mazini heard his uncle, who was one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah , as saying: The Messenger of Allah went out one day in order to pray for rain. He turned his back towards people, supplicated before Allah, facing towards Qibla, and turned his mantle round and then observed two rak'ahs of prayer.

QUICK LESSONS:
Turn to Allah when you need help or guidance; Remain humble and patient when making requests to Allah; Have faithfulness and trust in His plan.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the Prophet Muhammad's practice of praying for rain. He went out one day to do so, facing towards the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca, known as the Qibla, and performed two rak'ahs of prayer. This shows us that Muslims should turn to Allah when they need help or guidance, no matter what it is they are asking for. It also teaches us that we should be humble and patient when making our requests to Allah; even though it may take time before our prayers are answered, we must remain steadfast in our faith and trust that Allah will provide us with what is best for us at His own time.
