Sahih al-Bukhari 954 (Book 13, Hadith 6) #923
Sacrificing Dearer Possessions for 'Id

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) allowed a man to sacrifice a young she-goat as an 'Id sacrifice, even though it was dearer to him than the meat of two sheep.

Narrated Anas: The Prophet said, "Whoever slaughtered (his sacrifice) before the 'Id prayer, should slaughter again". A man stood up and said, "This is the day on which one has desire for meat," and he mentioned something about his neighbors. It seemed that the Prophet I believed him. Then the same man added, "I have a young she-goat which is dearer to me than the meat of two sheep". The Prophet permitted him to slaughter it as a sacrifice. I do not know whether that permission was valid only for him or for others as well.

QUICK LESSONS:
Make sacrifices with sincerity for pleasing Allah and fulfilling religious obligations.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about sacrificing something that is dearer to us for the sake of Allah on the occasion of Eid. It shows us that we should be willing to give up something precious if it means pleasing Allah and fulfilling our religious obligations. The man in this hadith was willing to give up his young she-goat, which he valued more than two sheep, in order to fulfill his obligation of sacrificing an animal on Eid. This teaches us that we should be willing to make sacrifices for Allah and not let our love for worldly possessions get in the way of our faith and devotion. We should also remember that any sacrifice made with sincerity will be accepted by Allah and rewarded generously.
