Praying Two Rak'ahs After Jumu'a

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad used to pray two rak'ahs after Jumu'a.

Salim narrated on the authority of his father that the Messenger of Allah used to observe two rak'ahs after Jumu'a.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، وَابْنُ، نُمَيْرٍ قَالَ زُهَيْرٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ كَانَ يُصَلِّي بَعْدَ الْجُمُعَةِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us that the Prophet Muhammad used to observe two rak’ahs after the Friday prayer, also known as Jumu’ah. A rak’ah is a unit of prayer and is performed by standing, bowing, prostrating and sitting in between each cycle. It is important for Muslims to follow in the footsteps of the Prophet Muhammad and perform these extra prayers as it brings them closer to Allah and helps them become better people. It also teaches us that we should always strive to do more than what is required from us in order to gain rewards from Allah.
