Sahih al-Bukhari 945 (Book 12, Hadith 4) #915
Performing Prayers After Sunset

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) and Umar had not offered the 'Asr prayer on the day of Khandaq, but they still performed it after the sun had set.

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: On the day of the Khandaq 'Umar came, cursing the disbelievers of Quraish and said, "O Allah's Apostle! I have not offered the 'Asr prayer and the sun has set". The Prophet replied, "By Allah! I too, have not offered the prayer yet".The Prophet then went to Buthan, performed ablution and performed the 'Asr prayer after the sun had set and then offered the Maghrib prayer after it".

QUICK LESSONS:
Offer your daily prayers on time; Make up missed prayers as soon as possible; Perform ablution before every prayer; Persevere in worshiping Allah SWT despite any obstacles or difficulties you may face .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about performing prayers after sunset. On the day of Khandaq, Umar came to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and told him that he hadn't offered his Asr prayer yet and that the sun had already set. The Prophet ﷺ replied saying that he too hadn't offered his Asr prayer yet. They both then went to Buthan, performed ablution and then prayed their Asr prayers even though it was past sunset. This teaches us that we should never miss our prayers no matter what time of day it is or how busy we are; if we miss a prayer due to any reason, we should make up for it as soon as possible even if it means praying after sunset has passed. We must also remember to perform ablution before every prayer in order for our worship to be accepted by Allah SWT.
