Sahih Muslim 837 (Book 6, Hadith 367) #9092
Eagerness to Pray

SUMMARY: People in Medina were so eager to pray that a stranger would think the obligatory prayer had already been observed.

Anas b. Malik reported: When we were in Medina, the moment the Mu'adhdhin made the call to the sunset prayer, the people hastened to the pillars of the mosque and prayed two rak'ahs with the result that any stranger coming into the mosque would think that the obligatory prayer had been observed owing to the number who were praying then.

QUICK LESSONS:
Rush towards pillars of mosque when hearing call for prayer; Make prayers meaningful; Be devoted & enthusiastic about prayers; Reap rewards from prayers both in this life & hereafter

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the eagerness of people in Medina to pray at sunset. When the Mu'adhdhin made the call for prayer, people rushed to the pillars of the mosque and prayed two rak'ahs. This was done with such enthusiasm that any stranger coming into the mosque would think that they had already observed their obligatory prayer due to how many people were praying then. This shows us how important it is for us as Muslims to be devoted and enthusiastic about our prayers and not take them lightly or neglect them. We should strive to make our prayers meaningful and heartfelt so we can reap its rewards both in this life and hereafter.
