Sahih Muslim 818b (Book 6, Hadith 328) #9053
Patience in Prayer

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the patience of Umar b. Khattab when he heard Hisham b. Hakim reciting Surah al-Furqan during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger and refrained from interrupting him until he finished his prayer.

This hadith has been transmitted thus by 'Umar b. Khattab (with a slight change of words): " I heard Hisham b. Hakim reciting Surah al-Furqan during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger ". The rest is the same but with this addition:" I was about to catch hold of him in prayer, but I exercised patience till he pronounced salutation.

QUICK LESSONS:
Exercise patience while in prayer
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of exercising patience while in prayer, even if one hears something that may be distracting or disruptive to their own worship experience. Umar b. Khattab was so patient that he refrained from interrupting Hisham b. Hakim as he was reciting Surah al-Furqan during a prayer session with Allah's Messenger present, despite wanting to do so initially out of respect for his fellow worshipper and for the sanctity of the moment itself. This teaches us that we should always strive to maintain our composure and remain focused on our prayers, no matter what distractions may arise around us or within us, as this is an important part of our relationship with God Almighty Himself and a sign of true faithfulness towards Him alone.
