Sahih Muslim 789a (Book 6, Hadith 267) #8992
The Vigilant Memorizer of the Quran

SUMMARY: Memorizing the Quran is like a hobbled camel, if you remain vigilant and keep it tied up, you will be able to retain it.

'Abdullah b. 'Umar reported Allah's Messenger as saying: The example of a man who has memorized the Qur'an is like that of a hobbled camel. If he remained vigilant, he would be able to retain it (with him), and if he loosened the hobbled camel it would escape.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of memorizing the Quran and remaining vigilant in order to retain it. It compares memorizing the Quran to a hobbled camel, which is an animal that has its legs tied together so that it cannot escape or run away. If someone remains vigilant and keeps their focus on memorizing the Quran, they will be able to retain it with them for a long time. However, if they become lax in their efforts or let go of their focus on memorization then they may lose what they have learned and not be able to remember as much as before. This hadith encourages us to stay focused on our goal of learning and retaining knowledge from Allah's book so that we can benefit from its teachings for years to come.
