The Prophet's Sermon Practice

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to deliver two sermons and sit in between them.

Narrated 'Abdullah Ibn 'Umar: The Prophet used to deliver two Khutbas and sit in between them.
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ يَخْطُبُ خُطْبَتَيْنِ يَقْعُدُ بَيْنَهُمَا‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was known for his practice of delivering two sermons during the Friday prayer. He would stand up and give a sermon to the people before they prayed, then he would sit down and wait for them to finish their prayer. After that, he would stand up again and give another sermon before they left. This practice is still followed today in many Muslim communities around the world as a way of reminding people of their faith and duties as Muslims. It also serves as an opportunity for people to come together in one place and listen to words of wisdom from the Prophet ﷺ himself.

The values taught by this hadith are those of patience, perseverance, faithfulness, humility, respect for others’ beliefs and practices, listening attentively when someone is speaking or preaching about important matters related to religion or life in general. It also teaches us that we should take time out from our busy lives every now and then so that we can reflect on our actions and be reminded of our duties towards Allah SWT.
