Sahih Muslim 771b (Book 6, Hadith 241) #8966
The Prayer of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the prayer of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and how he would recite certain phrases during his prayer.

A'raj reported that when the Messenger of Allah would start the prayer, he would pronounce takbir (Allah-o-Akbar) and then say: I turn my face (up to Thee), I am the first of the believers; and when he raised his head from ruku' he said: Allah listened to him who praised Him; O our Lord, praise be to Thee; and he said: He shaped (man) and how fine is his shape? And he (the narrator) said: When he pronounced salutation he said: O Allah, forgive me my earlier (sins), to the end of the hadith; and he did not say it between the Tashahhud and salutation (as mentioned above).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about the prayer of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and how he would recite certain phrases during his prayer. When starting the prayer, he would pronounce takbir, which means “Allah is the greatest” in Arabic, and then say “I turn my face up to Thee, I am the first of believers”. After bowing down in ruku', he said “Allah listened to him who praised Him; O our Lord, praise be to Thee” and when standing up again from ruku', he said “He shaped man and how fine is his shape?” Finally when pronouncing salutation at the end of his prayer, he said “O Allah forgive me my earlier sins”¦” This hadith teaches us that we should always remember Allah while praying by reciting these phrases as taught by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. We should also appreciate Allah's creation by praising His workmanship in creating mankind with such a perfect shape. Lastly we should ask for forgiveness for our sins before ending our prayers so that we can start anew with a clean slate each time we pray.
