The Benefits of Praying Two Short Rak'ahs at Night

SUMMARY: It is recommended to begin the prayer with two short rak'ahs when one wakes up in the night.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Apostle as saying When any one of you gets up at night, he should begin the prayer with two short rak'ahs.
وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي، هُرَيْرَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ قَالَ ‏"‏ إِذَا قَامَ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَلْيَفْتَتِحْ صَلاَتَهُ بِرَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ.
