EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith encourages Muslims to perform the night prayer, also known as Qiyam al-Layl. This is a voluntary prayer that can be done at any time during the night and it is recommended to make it the last prayer before dawn. It is important to note that this hadith does not refer only to one particular type of night prayer but rather encourages Muslims in general to observe this practice. Furthermore, it mentions that Prophet Muhammad used to order his companions in this way and thus serves as an example for us today. Lastly, it mentions witr which is a special type of salah or Islamic ritualistic prayers consisting of an odd number of rakats or units performed at night after Ishaa’ prayers and before Fajr prayers.
