Sahih Muslim 749d (Book 6, Hadith 180) #8905
Night Prayer in Islam

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the night prayer and how it consists of pairs of rak'ahs, but if one anticipates morning, they should pray one rak'ah and make the end of their prayer as Witr.

'Abdullah b. 'Umar reported: A person asked the Messenger of Allah as I stood between him (the Holy Prophet) and the inquirer and he said: Messenger of Allah, how is the night prayer? He (the Holy Prophet) said: It consists of pairs of rak'ahs, but if you apprehend morning, you should pray one rak'ah and make the end of your prayer as Witr. Then a person asked him (the Holy Prophet) at the end of the year and I was at that place near the Messenger of Allah ; but I do not know whether he was the same person or another person, but he (the Holy Prophet) gave him the same reply.

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray consistently at night according to Islamic teachings; Strive to do your best in whatever you do for Allah's sake; Make sure your prayers are done properly according to Islamic teachings; End your prayers with witr if you anticipate morning coming soon; Be dedicated and pious towards Allah's commands .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of night prayer in Islam. It explains that night prayer consists of pairs of rak’ahs, which are units or cycles within a salah or formal prayer. However, if one anticipates morning coming soon, they should only pray one rak’ah and make the end of their prayer as witr. The Prophet Muhammad gave this same advice to two different people who asked him about night prayers at different times during his life. This shows us that it is important to be consistent with our prayers and to not miss them even when we are busy or tired. It also teaches us that we should always strive to do our best in whatever we do for Allah's sake so that He will be pleased with us.
