The Night Prayer of Prophet Muhammad

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad used to pray 13 rak'ahs of the night prayer, 5 of which were Witr and he would not sit down until the end.

'A'isha reported: The Messenger of Allah used to observe thirteen rak'ahs of the night prayer. Five out of them consisted of Witr, and he did not sit, but at the end (for salutation).
وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ثَلاَثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً يُوتِرُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ بِخَمْسٍ لاَ يَجْلِسُ فِي شَىْءٍ إِلاَّ فِي آخِرِهَا

EXPLANATIONS:
According to this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad used to observe thirteen rak’ahs of the night prayer. Five out of them consisted of Witr and he did not sit but at the end for salutation. This hadith teaches us that we should be devoted in our prayers and strive to perform them with utmost concentration and dedication. It also shows us that we should not be lazy or take shortcuts when it comes to our religious obligations as Muslims. We should strive for excellence in all aspects of our lives, including our prayers.
