The Prophet's Pre-Fard Prayer at Dawn

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to perform two short rak'ahs before the Fard prayer at dawn.

Ibn 'Umar reported that Hafsa, the Mother of the Believers, informed him that when the Mu'adhdhin became silent after calling (people) to the dawn prayer, the Messenger of Allah commenced the dawn (prayer) when it dawned by observing two short rak'ahs before the commencement of the (Fard) prayer.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a practice that was done by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ during his time. He would perform two short rak'ahs before he started his obligatory Fard prayer at dawn. These two rak'ahs are known as pre-Fard prayer and it is a Sunnah for Muslims to follow this practice today as well. It is important to note that these two rak'ahs are not compulsory but rather an act of worship that can be done in order to gain more rewards from Allah SWT. During these two rak’ahs, one can make supplications or prostrations in order to seek forgiveness from Allah SWT and ask for His blessings upon oneself and others around them.
