Praying on a Camel Journey

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) praying on his camel while travelling from Mecca to Medina, and how this verse was revealed in relation to it.

Ibn 'Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah used to say prayer on his camel while coming from Mecca to Medina, in whatever direction his face had turned; and its was (in this context) that this verse was revealed: " So whether you turn thither is Allah's face" (ii. 115).
وَحَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يُصَلِّي وَهُوَ مُقْبِلٌ مِنْ مَكَّةَ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ حَيْثُ كَانَ وَجْهُهُ - قَالَ - وَفِيهِ نَزَلَتْ ‏{‏ فَأَيْنَمَا تُوَلُّوا فَثَمَّ وَجْهُ اللَّهِ‏}‏

This hadith speaks of the Prophet Muhammad's journey from Mecca to Medina, where he would pray on his camel in whatever direction it was facing. This is an example of how devoted he was to prayer and worshiping Allah even during travel. It also shows that Allah's mercy is all encompassing, as this verse was revealed in relation to the Prophet's prayer while travelling. The verse states that no matter which direction one turns towards, they will be turning towards Allah's face. This teaches us that we should always strive for devotion and faithfulness towards Allah no matter what situation we are in or what direction we are facing.
