The Sunnah of Abu'l-Qasim for Praying in Mecca

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Sunnah of Abu'l-Qasim ﷺ which is to pray two rak'ahs when one is in Mecca and not praying along with the Imam.

Musa b. Salama Hudhali said: I asked Ibn 'Abbas: How should I say prayer when I am in Mecca, and when I do not pray along with the Imam? He said: Two rak'ahs (of prayer) is the Sunnah of Abu'l-Qasim .
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَابْنُ، بَشَّارٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ سَلَمَةَ الْهُذَلِيِّ، قَالَ سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ كَيْفَ أُصَلِّي إِذَا كُنْتُ بِمَكَّةَ إِذَا لَمْ أُصَلِّ مَعَ الإِمَامِ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ سُنَّةَ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith was narrated by Musa b. Salama Hudhali who asked Ibn 'Abbas about how to say prayer when he was in Mecca and not praying along with the Imam. Ibn 'Abbas replied that two rak’ahs of prayer is the Sunnah of Abu’l-Qasim. This hadith teaches us that it is important to follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, even if we are not able to pray along with an Imam or leader at a certain time or place. It also teaches us that we should strive to perform our prayers according to what has been prescribed by Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, even if we are unable to do so in congregation with others.
