Sahih Muslim 640a (Book 5, Hadith 281) #8595
Staying in Prayer Until Midnight

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) delaying his Isha prayer until midnight and how he encouraged people to stay in prayer as long as they wait for it.

Thabit reported: They (the believers) asked Anas about the ring of the Messenger of Allah and he said: One night the Messenger of Allah delayed (observing) the 'Isya' prayer up to the midnight or midnight was about to be over. He then came and said: (Other) people have offered prayers and slept, but you are constantly in prayer as long as you wait for prayer. Anas said: I perceive as if I am seeing the lustre of his silver ring, and lifted his, small left finger (in order to show how the Prophet had lifted it).

QUICK LESSONS:
Remain patient while waiting for your prayers no matter what time of day or night it is .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of staying in prayer until late at night, even if it means missing out on sleep. It was narrated by Thabit from Anas ibn Malik, who said that one night the Prophet Muhammad delayed his Isha prayer up to midnight or just before it. He then came and said that other people have offered prayers and gone to sleep, but those who are waiting for their prayers should remain in prayer. Anas then described how he could still see the lustre of the Prophet's silver ring when he lifted his small left finger. This hadith teaches us that we should be patient and wait for our prayers no matter what time of day or night it is, and not give up on them even if we are tired or sleepy. We should also take comfort in knowing that Allah will reward us for our patience and perseverance with His blessings.
