Seeking Refuge with Allah from Four Trials

SUMMARY: This hadith teaches us to seek refuge with Allah from four trials, which are the torment of Hell, the torment of the grave, the trial of life and death and from the evil of Masih al-Dajjal.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (way peace be upon him) said: When any one of you utters tashahhud (in prayer) he must seek refuge with Allah from four (trials) and should thus say:" O Allah! I seek refuge with Thee from the torment of the Hell, from the torment of the grave, from the trial of life and death and from the evil of the trial of Masih al-Dajjal" (Antichrist).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith was narrated by Abu Huraira who reported that The Messenger of Allah said when any one of us utters tashahhud in prayer we must seek refuge with Allah from four trials. These four trials are mentioned as being the torment of Hell, which is a place where those who have done wrong will be punished; then there is also mentioned seeking refuge from the torment in grave; this means that even after death we should still seek protection from God's wrath. Then there is also mentioned seeking refuge from trial in life and death; this means that during our lifetime we should always strive to do good deeds so that God may protect us during difficult times. Lastly, it mentions seeking protection against evil caused by Masih Al Dajjal or Antichrist who will try to lead people astray through his false teachings. Therefore, this hadith teaches us to always turn towards God for protection against all kinds of harm or danger no matter what form it takes.
