Dhikr After Obligatory Prayers During Prophet Muhammad's Lifetime

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the practice of mentioning Allah's name in a loud voice after obligatory prayers during the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Ibn 'Abbas reported: Dhikr (mentioning the name of Allah) in a loud voice after obligatory prayers was (a common practice) during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ; and when I heard that I came to knew that they (the people) had finished the prayer.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، ح قَالَ وَحَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، - وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ - قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ، أَنَّ أَبَا مَعْبَدٍ، مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَفْعَ الصَّوْتِ بِالذِّكْرِ حِينَ يَنْصَرِفُ النَّاسُ مِنَ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ كَانَ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ ‏.‏ وَأَنَّهُ قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ كُنْتُ أَعْلَمُ إِذَا انْصَرَفُوا بِذَلِكَ إِذَا سَمِعْتُهُ

This was done so that people around could know that they have finished their prayer. This hadith teaches us to remember and mention Allah’s name at all times and especially after obligatory prayers as it was practiced by our beloved prophet. It also teaches us to be mindful of others and not forget our duties towards them even when we are busy with our own worship.
